Faustin Gacinya, the veteran journalist said that Rwandans before the 1994 genocide against Tutsis were a united people who lived together, shared resources with a common language.
This was said during the event to conclude the 21st anniversary of the Genocide against the Tutsi.
“The people who planned and carried out the genocide were Rwandans,” Gacinya “But the history and root causes go beyond this country.”
He urged Kibagabaga residents to stand together today as a people united, liberated and focused as never before on attaining the future we want.
Gacinya explained that divisions among Rwandans were caused by colonialists which led to the 1994 Tutsi genocide that claimed over a million lives.
Bernadatta Mukanyima, a 75, genocide survivor said that the hatred Hutus had for Tutsis during the genocide was beyond human understanding.
“In fact Hutus who participated in 1994 genocide against the Tutsis need to ask for forgiveness so that Rwanda can heal as a country,” said Mukanima.
