Rwanda Peacekeepers serving in the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS), on 13 September 2014, conducted Umuganda inaugurating the construction of a Primary School at Kapuri.

The school will be constructed as a Quick Impact Project through Umuganda/community work. The Site is located 17 kms from UNMISS tamping Compound in Juba.

The aim of this Umuganda/community work   was to bring on board the local population on the importance of community work in the development of the country.

Simon KENYI James Baya, the Director of Northern Bari Payam who was the Guest of Honour during the ceremony   thanked Kapuri and Rombur communities for their role played in the acceptance to provide the land where the school is to be constructed. He also thanked Rwanda UNMISS Contingent for initiating the construction of   Kapuri Primary School in order to protect pupils who are learning under trees against rain and distractions.

 

He urged all residents of Northern Bari Payam to actively participate in Umuganda.  “Don’t wait for somebody else to build schools for our children, other than ourselves”, the Director of Northern Bari Payam urged the local residents.

Local residents represented by Lawrence Andrea Juda, Acting Sub-Chief of Rombur Village  expressed his happiness and thanked UNMISS Rwandan peacekeepers and Rwandan Community in South Sudan  for their initiative and determination to assist  the  pupils  and  residents by  constructing  the new primary school at Kapuri.

“I am very happy; I don’t know how to express it, with the Kapuri Primary which will be constructed to become a model and excellent in the area” he expressed

In his remarks Col Mutara Nkangura, the Rwandan Contingent Commander emphasized the importance of quick impact project, and the role of Umuganda to the benefit of the community.

“We are committed to fight against harsh learning conditions of pupils. UNMISS Rwandan Contingent in partnership with Rwandan Community in South Sudan and the local population is going to construct eight classrooms, staff offices and restrooms at Kapuri Site in three months ahead. This achievement will be a solution to the vulnerability of Kapuri Pupils who are learning in harsh conditions”, said Col Mutara Nkangura

He underlined that education support and protection of children cannot be achieved by a single agency… “Everyone has a part to play. Through Umuganda, we can address the problem of schools for our children” added Col Mutara
