The ministry of local government (Minaloc) today handed over four firefighting trucks worth Rwf1.9 billion, each costing Rwf470 millions. The trucks were purchase out of funds collected from the local government coffers.
The event was preceded by signing of a memorandum of understanding between Rwanda national police and the local government.
The police have been tasked, in the memorandum, to respond to fires, maintain the equipment; while local government will have to do it part of educating and training residents on fire fighting and also giving timely information whenever such fires break out.
The minister of local government, Francis Kaboneka, said that the donation is timely and comes out of the efforts of Rwandans to get solutions to the existing problems with in society today, such as rampant fires.
He urged the police and local leaders to start up a campaign plan and set up a contingent agenda of how this initiative is going to be implemented in each district and province, but promised continued support to purchase more fire equipment in the future, if resources allow.
