Philbert Mugisha, mayor of Nyamagabe district called upon residents of Kabacuzi village, Nyamugari cell, Gasaka sector has appealed to residents to play an active role in crime prevention and community development.
Mugisha made the call on January 21, during the meeting with Nyamagabe district authorities and residents of Kabacuzi village.
The meeting came after a dead body of one identified as Felicien Habyarimana was found on the road in the morning of 21st January 2015.
During the meeting, residents were encouraged to play a role in patrolling, sharing information and everything else that can be used by the authorities to ensure security of residents.
Talking to this website, residents of Kabacuzi village revealed that crimes such as murder happen sometimes in this area, saying residents should avoid being outside their homes during late hours of the night.
One Silivani Kayihura said: “It’s not the first time this crime has happened, another person lost his life in the same way. There are thugs that rob and kill people, residents should go home before dark.”
Nyamagabe district administration embarked on strengthening security and sensitising residents to be part of the work such as night patrolling.
“It’s residents’ role to share any information that can help strengthen security. Let’s cooperate with security organs, keep security and prevent crimes,” he added.
